KINtsugi class

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Kintsugi class and workshop are temporarily closed. Traditional kintsugi classes will resume weekly from Tuesday, October 1st. The next modern kintsugi workshop will be held at Kinka on September 26th. To register, click the link in the Modern kintsugi schedule section below.

There are two types of kintsugi: traditional kintsugi and modern kintsugi. Traditional kintsugi uses urushi(japanese lacquer)and pure gold powder and is a slower process that takes longer and finishes more beautifully. modern kintsugi is a new method using epoxy and brass powder for a quicker finish. This is recommended for those who want to experience Kintsugi easily.

Traditional kintsugi class

  • Traditional Kintsugi is a skill that takes time to master, requiring regular attendance. It typically takes at least five sessions to grasp the basics and months to years to become proficient. However, the end result is a beautiful, semi-permanent piece of art that brings joy.

  • We provide all the necessary materials and tools. Please bring a simple, palm-sized glazed ceramic piece to repair. Please purchase gold and silver powders only as needed. It's important to note that traditional Kintsugi involves using Japanese lacquer, which can cause skin irritation. While we provide gloves and take precautions, we cannot be held responsible for any skin reactions. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Our group classes for traditional Kintsugi take place every Tuesday(Sometimes Saturday) from 10am to 12pm at our Brooklyn apartment in Bed-Stuy. Private classes can be scheduled at your convenience. Group classes are $80 per session (or $70 per session if you buy four sessions in bulk), and private classes are $120 for per session.

Please note that space is limited, with a maximum of four participants. To check for available spots, contact us at info@yukogunji.com

modern kintsugi workshop

  • Modern Kintsugi is a recent technique designed for those seeking a quicker Kintsugi experience. Unlike traditional Kintsugi, it utilizes food-safe epoxy, eliminating the risk of skin irritation and allowing completion in just a few hours. I recommend traditional Kintsugi for those wanting an authentic learning experience and modern Kintsugi for those seeking a swift and easy introduction.

  • All necessary materials and tools will be provided. Please prepare a simple, palm-sized, unglued, broken ceramic piece and a take-out box (you'll need to take it home during the curing process). ※Please ensure the items meet the conditions highlighted in bold; pieces broken into more than 4 parts may cause delays or may not be finished in time.

If you don't have suitable broken pieces, please let us know, and I can prepare them for you.

  • 2 hours

  • Up to 6 people. For groups larger than 6, please schedule at least one month in advance, and I will arrange for assistants.

  • September 26th at Kinka

For workshop requests at your store or private event, please reach out to us at info@yukogunji.com to discuss your requirements.
